Paediatric First Aid – Level 3 Award : Highfield ABC Accredited Short Course
Paediatric First Aid (level 3) is designed for use by staff in the workplace working to become a Paediatric First Aider. This is suitable for employees with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. First aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Topics within this course are regarded by the Early Years Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel. Please note, this qualification meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014.
How The Course Works
Group activities and discussion with assessment by a practical and theoretical test. Participants will be able to understand the importance of:
– Understanding the roles & responsibilities of a paediatric first aider, assessing an emergency situation safely, use & maintain adequate record keeping
– Providing first aid for in a range of situations including, minor injuries, injuries to the eyes, ears and nose, burn & scalds, bites, stings, poisoning, breathing difficulties, shock, bleeding and unresponsive infants & children

Paediatric Emergency First Aid Training Course Goals
At the end of this course, attendees will be able to provide staff who work with infant and children the necessary skills to act in following types of paediatric first aid emergency.
- Help a child or an infant that has injured an eye
- Help a child or an infant that has suffered from electric shock
- Help a child or an infant that you suspect has fractured a limb
- Help a child or an infant that is experiencing a seizure
- Help a child or an infant that is in an anaphylactic shock
- Help a child or an infant has had an allergic reaction
- Help a child or an infant suffering from an insect sting or bite
- Help a child or an infant that is experiencing an emergency diabetic response
- Help a child or an infant who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
- Help a child or an infant that his bleeding from a cut or scratch
